On my quest to come up with a less dick-ish answer I came up with...

"Still no."

But sometimes when I'm listening to a track I've been working on, when its in the closing stages, close to being upload-ready I putter around the internet looking for images that might match potential titles, based on word associations.

Definitely don't look at art sites for inspiration. If art inspires the music I don't need to look any further. If I'm rocketing towards the closing stages of a track I'm looking for something that matches my ideas.

Remember art is only porn when the creators don't put halos on the owners of the erection.
yeah i was gonna say this,but....meh.:snob:

Re: Anybody Else Look At Art While They Produce?

Sounds silly but I consider my wallpaperx slideshow and the color scheme in Ableton to all be part of setting the best mindset. I use interfacelift.com which is mostly landscape and cityscape hd wallpapers, then I just find ones that put me in a place that feels like the music I want to make. Moody tech house - rainy city shot for example.

I also like to just listen to my favorite music for a bit beforehand, enjoy some herbal remedies, helps to calibrate my ears and be inspired

Re: Anybody Else Look At Art While They Produce?

Not art per se, but I used to collaborate in a project called Trace Element, more ambient style IDM, in my collaborators studio (a real deal recording studio - iso booths, proper acoustic treatment in the mix room etc) he had a projector and a screen above the window to the vocal booth. We would often put Baraka or Samsara on that screen on mute while working up the concepts that eventually turned into the tunes.

Re: Anybody Else Look At Art While They Produce?

I have looked at the same piece of art every time for the past (...mmm...I don't know, I've lost track of the years...) before I do anything, because it's my wallpaper.
It just helps me zone out life before I zone in to music.

------------------
You, or anyone else, are free to do anything with the music that I make. I consider all of my productions to be public domain. If someone asks, I will give them the source files and any related sample files if they are needed. Music is a dialogue, not a speech. Any listener must be free to become the speaker at any time for the life of the dialogue to be retained. Let us, then, discuss in tone.

That's an interesting idea, Blue. I didn't try anything like that yet but I think I will. How did you discover that visual art stimulates you like that?

Same. I have a couple of large-ish Robert Venosa painting repros in my new studio.

Re: Anybody Else Look At Art While They Produce?

I used to work with the TV on and turned, well, not down. You could here it with the music. I would choose things with litle music on the television. I’d probably still do that, but we don’t have one TV In the house set up for network TV even... and some how streaming something I don’t care about on my phone isn’t the same as the big TV set sitting in the corner. Ah well. I also don’t smoke blunts by myself in the studio anymore, so the TV thing may not work anyway...

I have purposely furnished the walls of my studio with framed art and imagery that I find inspiring. Having this kind of stuff around me when I produce certainly helps in a strange way.

Re: Anybody Else Look At Art While They Produce?

That's pretty fking stupid.. who would look at deviantart pictures while producing?!
Im kidding ofc .. in the process i do not look at art.
I do that once the track is finished , I always try to find a picture that match my track or I make one by myself.
Btw do u look at art to find some inspiration or what?... i like this kind of topics tho.

Peace.
