Re: Future Garage Thread

Yeah, I can't deny that, and it does seem like he might be jumping on to the bandwagon. Someone on Reddit or somewhere mentioned him "always wanting to have done this kind of stuff" and blah blah.

Trying to keep Burial and all the other producers making Future Garage out of it, on its own, away form comparison I think it's cool.

to me it sounds less energetic and more mellow compared to some of the other stuff he made
as for the wip/teaser theory I think it sounds more like a set he did with some hardware being that the tracks truant and rough sleeper are as long as they are

Kind of excited to hear this. Only heard a shortened radio rip before and the DJ talked over it a fair bit.

Re: Future Garage Thread

I'm actually really in love with the future garage sound. The fact that Skrillex changed it up doesn't bother me. I don't understand why people get so involved in getting a genre "fucked up". Honestly I'm very appreciative for people like Skrillex bringing unknown genres known to the mainstream just because it helps people like us get more attention. I mean I don't know I don't look at music the scenester route, I look at it as the pure artistic form it deserves to be. I don't get why people always hate and it never has much to do with the music it's always about the politics and the "selling out". Seriously who cares. If the music is good its good.

except it usually winds up with the genre getting diluted, overly formulized(if it wasn't already) and 'pop-ified' which is why people dislike it.

Best example is how what people now think of as dubstep half the time has nothing to do with actual dubstep.

It doesn't ALWAYS result in ONLY bad but it often ends up with a bunch of tasteless idiots spouting how awesome something is without knowing anything about the actual thing.

That's why people get tetchy about 'selling out' and all that crap.

I can understand that, very true. Honestly I wasn't huge into dubstep before the trend started arising. Better yet, I wasn't into dubstep before brostep came in. Honestly I do like for an example very little dubstep or brostep to begin with. I like Flux Pavilion, but I'm more into the folktronic, glitch music, ambient, trip-hop. IDM thing. I wouldn't mind seeing IDM in a setting where it's more accepted by the general public, but as long as it doesn't go the way you explained above. lol

Re: Future Garage Thread

@Burial Truant: This is the first new Burial tune I've been excited about in a while. I like this direction, that little tribal beats break down is great. I love that the bass is this super lo fi, LPF 808 or something. It does almost feel like "set". He re-uses samples or is very apt to pick similar ones. Love that kick pattern around 5mins. Very Techno-ish. @6:33...love that old school rave arp. Damn...almost sounds like the Burial took apart some Prodigy tracks or something. Big up this tune : )

Re: Future Garage Thread

It's almost like Burial quotes himself. There's a sample he used first on Untrue (like shattering glass layered over a short synth part, probably from MGS) that he quoted on Kindred, and used a very short snippet of at the end of one of the sections of this new EP.

It's the kind of thing that could sound unimaginative, but with him it's more like he's looking at these environments and moods from different angles. That sample's like a placeholder, or the crumbs dropped along the forest path.

That's cool, to be honest I've never listened to Burial that intently. And I don't think it's a bad thing. For me it's like a theme running through his work that he readdresses in different contexts. Like how novelist or poet kinda writes the same story or metaphor or image over and over again, but the context changes.

I know that a lot of poets I've met have said as much--that they feel like the are really just writing one poem over and over again "trying to get it right". I can see Burial in such a light.

Re: Future Garage Thread

Mostly into the darker, more emotional future garage stuff I hear from time to time; obviously Burial playing a huge role. I have quite a few friends who dabble in some garagey stuff; anyone heard of "bl∆nc"? If you dig the burial sound, there's a decent chance their stuff will have something for you.

Re: Future Garage Thread

As much as I like Burial and the Shinigami EP by Sorrow, I can't help but feel that, like dubstep before it, this genre has become it's own cliche. If only someone would do something innovative with it, instead of trying to emulate that metal on metal percussion and vinyl hiss over and over again.
