Pitch Shifting A Sample

I've been trying to figure out for awhile now how to raise the pitch on a sample without having it sound out of tune. I use Ableton Live. Im using Transpose/Detune on the sample but when i raise it higher, it sounds out of key. Any help please????

Example @ :30-1:00

Re: Pitch Shifting A Sample

After I click the Envelope inside the clip, All i can find is the transpose automation... Is this is because it sounds a little out of tune still. Ive seen one video on youtube where it actually says pitch bend under the envelope

Re: Pitch Shifting A Sample

So I opened the Sampler and loaded my clip into it. I figured out how to pitch bend. As the pitch rises higher, the sample goes faster... Anyway I can keep it at the same tempo??

Re: Pitch Shifting A Sample

Ah, you are pitching a sample? Well, that explains faster playspeed (if you are pitching up).
If you insist on using samples, then (instead) maybe a simple pitch shifter plugin will do the job.

Otherwise it's usually synths (synthesized sound) that does the portamento/pitch shifting.

Re: Pitch Shifting A Sample

It's been a long time since I've used a pitch shift VST, as I usually do most pitching natively. But here are a bunch of free ones. Try a few out that seem interesting and capable of doing the job:

Re: Pitch Shifting A Sample

have another n00b question related to the OP's topic. I have been doing pitch bend automation on certain sounds but I was thinking if I am writing in key using a specific scale wouldn't at certain points in the automation the sound be out of "key" with the rest of the track unless I manually programmed the building pitch sound in the piano roll using only the notes from the scale/key I am using. Not sure if these even matters but when making pitch bend sounds (usually for builds in house music) sometimes it sounds out of tune with the rest of the track as the automation is occurring.

Might just be confusing myself even more but would appreciate any insight!
