Samplers

Can anyone recommend a sampler? I need something that will hold a few drumkits. Nothing fancy, expensive or flashy. Cheers.

Well, you should have put that into the OP.
Shortcircuit is still a hardware sampler. It runs on a computer.

I don't think you'll be disappointed by a the ESX it's quite a powerful little box for the money. You may want to switch out the tubes as the stock ones aren't very pleasant IMO.

I really like my lowly ES-1, so I expect you'll enjoy the ES-X even more. I think I'll dig up my stereo microphone tonight and sample some sounds around the apartment tonight.

Indeed it is.
However, if it was made into a dedicated Massive hw synth (by N.I), my guess it would sell really well.

Yeah man, Someone offered me a MPC 1000 for my Roland TR 606 but I said no because I'm not into pads and the mpc is kinda used as a hip hop/rap sampler. I'm more into step-sequencing.

Why are you looking for a hardware option, by the way? For workflow or the sound? Just interested.

TBH its for a few reasons, The first being that I always wanted hardware to produce music, the 2nd reason is, with so many options to tweak/modify sounds that software DAWs and VST clones offer I sometimes find myself at times getting lost for hours just tweaking knobs and other parameters. At least with a hardware unit your limited to an extent. I also really like the sound from real synths as opposed to there VST clones.

Anyway the reason I want the hardware sampler is because I want to hook it up to my 303 and use some 909/808 kits on it.

That is exactly what I tell people when they ask why I've spent so much money on hardware in the past 9 months. That and I enjoy making music way more than I ever did clicking a mouse. Hardware can be frustrating at times...especially for me since I'm new to getting things routed and synched. But in the end...I flip a couple power switches and I'm jamming. That's worth the money IMO.

So you have an actual 303 or a XoXBox or...?
