Yeah, someone mentioned it on this forum earlier. Cool!

Also check out ChordSpace:

and Improvisator (there used to be a free version, which I have, but I can't find it online)

That will do.

Naw, the midichords identifies what chord it is you are playing/inputing/clicking, the chordspace and improvisator will generate chords (midi) which you assign/route to your synth of choice.

You know on cheap home keyboards it has the "one-finger chords" mode?
It's similar to that basically except it sends MIDI.

Naw, midichords will save/generate a custom chord to any individual key. It also identifies what you got going on. midichords is a lot more user friendly than improvisator or chordspace.

Ah! I must have gotten it all wrong then. No wonder I had trouble understanding it when I downloaded it (and used it briefly). I went into the mindset that it identified chords, and thought it was "broken" (or I obviously did something wrong). Haha.
Thanks for making it clear.

Re: your new chord buddy vst

Thanks for the links! And while you are being at it - how do you actually route this kind of a plugin in Ableton, can anyone shed some light on that matter? I can't seem to be able to use it on the same channel with a synth VST... Dumb question but I have never encountered such software while using Ableton until now.

Why would you need these plugins in Ableton Live?

You already have them in the midi effects folder!

The "chord" plugin will generate chords for you, the scale plugin will put them all in scale!

You can generate instant melody lines too, just create a clip with one single note, make it one bar long, then on that midi channel just add your favourite vst instrument, before it place the following midi effects in this order:
- Random; chords; arpeggiator (not necessary, but cool), scale.
Now play around with the settings for each plugin.

That's great! Believe it or not I still haven't got to the MIDI fx folder I've been taking it slow, obviously. I will most definitely play around with what you have suggested, but there must be a way for external plugins of such kind to work in Ableton as well, no? For instance I've also got a few outsider RPG8rs, but still experience the same problem - can't use them over VST instruments. Thanks for the suggestions though, Automageddon!

I got chordspace working with Live

select MIDI from: Chordspace << in both drop down boxes

works great!
