Minimal/House/Tech VST
First post.
Pretty new to the art of music production, hooked myself up with logic and a macbook and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good VST package that would be great for Tech House/Minimal/Techno thats compatile with logic.
I'm struggling hard with bass and not to keen on the logic synth interface or sound.
Also anywhere i could find good samples (kick/snare/hat/percussion one hits)

Re: Minimal/House/Tech VST
Microtonic
3 week free trial but it is well worth the money
Check this out aswell, really cool feature
edit... just seen you asked for a synth!
sylenth1, cheap, easy to use and most importantly... sounds good
and welcome to the forum

Re: Minimal/House/Tech VST
I think Reaktor's Mirko Prism synth is great for making metal percs and cool sounding synths for minimal
It's free too.

Thanks! Is it just a toned down version of Prism?

Re: Minimal/House/Tech VST
massive sounds like plastic to me.
No single vst is gonna give you what you need. Although a good start is drumatic, its free and has very nice clean drum synthesis, which is a must. Most of the time i find drum samples don't quite cut if for minimal tech if you are going for a clean sound.
Compressing samples to the extent required tends to bring up the noise floor to audible levels and generates noisy transients. You can compress the living shit out of a drum synth with no worries. Then bounce it to audio.
other than that you need a good eq (preferably one with shelfing eq) and a solid reverb unit. A nice fm based synthesizer would not hurt at all either.

Re: Minimal/House/Tech VST
I like this one. Mostly because it limits me, (if that makes sense).
There are only four bands, with limited ability to adjust frequency and bandwidth. I like it for these reasons:
1) I can only do so much with one instance, so i make the most important changes. This prevents me from over equalizing, which has been a problem for me.
2) eqing is actually pretty quick. When you don't have super fine frequency and q control you tend to work faster
3) up to 4 bands of shelfing eq. I love the shelf eq settings on here.
4) no spectral display, makes me use my ears instead of my eyes.
5) its not offensive to boost on here. You can get away with boosting frequencies on this a little more than some other eqs.

mostly its a workflow thing, but yeah. Love this eq.

Re: Minimal/House/Tech VST
In terms of reverb any convolution reverb unit will do, ie: altiverb, pristine space, IR-1.
I like to record my own impulses and use them for reverb.
As far as fm synths go the fm8 is the king in my opinion.
