Re: Who has learned music theory and regretted it?
If bandcoach confuses fishes with ties, I doubt we can trust ANYTHING this delusional fool says!

Re: Who has learned music theory and regretted it?
AFAIC it is a FISH - I had a professor who would the ugliest fish tie you ever saw - it was shaped as a rainbow trout and damn it was ugly - tie - fish it's all the same to me!

Oh and laundry machines, especially those that are slightly out of balance, are terrific percussion instruments as are pianos

Re: Who has learned music theory and regretted it?
Music theory is all I really care about. I strive to learn as much as I can about theory and put it into practice, picking up production techniques along the way, as a bonus.
So the answer to the question is definitely no. I only regret not starting at an earlier age.

Re: Who has learned music theory and regretted it?
For the style I'm currently making, I think there is almost no point knowing theory.
I have learned the bases of music theory, I found that fascinating, but I never took my courage and actually practiced them. I kind of regret that, I mean, I'm almost unable to compose a decent melody right now.

You poor, misinformed fool. I've studied enough music theory to know that the piano isn't a percussive instrument. It's an oboe.

Re: Who has learned music theory and regretted it?
Yeah, BTW, there was many mentions of Keithy and his unique music here.
Can someone link me to somewhere I can hear what he does?

No.
You can't understand Keithy without experiencing him, you wouldn't get it.
Not because it's you, but think of Keithy as if he was NI Maschine, you take the bundle, you can't have the software or the hardware alone.

Re: Who has learned music theory and regretted it?
Keithy had such a warm, friendly, humble personality.
I mean, I told him to fuck off and die several times in various forms, and he never hated back at me once.
He just still carried out asking me if I liked his tracks, if I liked the remix, if I would listen to the new track, if I like the new or old version better.
Not once did he take my hate to heart I tell thee!

All the true IDMf old-skoolers know that Silke F. puts Keithy to shame.

Re: Who has learned music theory and regretted it?
Whoooo whooo whoooo wowowow...
Is Quantum666 any related to Keithy?
That's fucking impossible
*furriously searching several search engines right now*
Edit: Keithy = Quantum NOOOOOwaitaminute here, that character is much more interesting than what I have read in, uh, real-time...
Re-Edit: so that's where the "anyone notice the slightly dark atmosphere" coming from... I always liked that sig.

His songs divided the forum like a warm knife through butter.
Was he really pushing new boundaries or just pushing random buttons?
The debate is still raging on as you can see from the comments above.

Does anyone know where I can find keithy's music online? He only posted mp3 links, which are all dead. I've read the reviews, so I understand what I'm getting into but I can't help but have a morbid curiosity about it...

Re: Who has learned music theory and regretted it?
I def do not regret it... anything that helps you to build your knowledge in music is helpful for production...
But I find that I use my ear more than any theory book... that always seems to be the best guide.

She's back, goes under the name of...
Also, there was also Qunatum666, but that was a fake, as he was actually another IDMfer mocking us all.
Back on topic, I used Earmaster quite a lot, but what helped me more was taking piano lessons...

Yeah, I think "theory" is loosely defined here.
