Novation 25 SL Compact vs M-Audio Axiom - Post this thread on Twitter!

I know there are a quite a few threads that discuss both of these controllers but I was interested to find out how you think the features stand up against each other (e.g. does one have superior pads to the other? )
I have been messing about on Logic for about a month but it is frustrating work without a MIDI controller - what would you say are the pros of each?

I like the display on the Novation, that looks really useful and the automapping feature sounds awesome. I have seen a lot of praise for the Axiom and I have to admit that looks-wise it appeals to me more.

The Axiom is a fair bit cheaper so I suppose the question I would most like answered is how much more flexibility the extra knobs on the Novation give and how much more intuitive and easy to use the automapping feature make using the Compact over the Axiom (if at all)

Cheers!

I've always been kind of "meh" about M Audio build quality. I have a Novation Remote Zero SL and it rawks.

Dont forget the automap function on the remote wont work with Logic..... How about a micro Korg or Akai MPC49. Two of which I'm looking into myself.

Ah! Very useful to know seeing as the automap function was the most appealing aspect of the Novation for me... I like the look of the MPK49! It's a little out of my price range since I'm only starting out... it would mean that I wouldn't have to invest in the Korg PadKONTROL I've been eying up though. Thanks for the info pal

if you get the MPK you won't need the pad control, the Mpk has it all : keys, knobs and pads. and it is an AWESOME peace of gear for the price it offers

Since you're using Live, maybe you can play around with the resolution setting? When you click on the MIDI button and map the parameter, at the bottom of the window these settings appear, allowing you to adjust the behavior of the controller for that particular parameter.

If you try this, please let me know here, because I was interested in Axiom long time ago, and find relative encoders quite useful, yet I wouldn't want to spend 10 minutes turning it from minimum to maximum value.
