Glade Festival: Your thoughts - Post this thread on Twitter!

Hey all, just got back from glade and i have to say it was a massive let down.... I dint find the sound good on any of the stages. I have been for several festivals in australia and the sound has always been amazing, often using the same rig if not worse... None of the artists except possibly Autechre, the guy before them and james holden managed to get any clarity... The sound at the overkill stage was disastrous, i couldnt believe that after all the anticipation to see some of my favourite artists this is what i recieved...

In terms of music i thought Autechres set was sublime! they dint play many tracks i knew and the ones i did were all remixes... what i was really amazed at was how they design there subs, it was far more defined then anyone else i have seen... They were making grooves with sustained subs... one track i heard a really low square wave playing rhythms, i couldnt belive my ears... Listening to them on monitors, atleast the ones i have which are 8 inch doesnt do justice to their sound in any way...

Clarks set was awesome as well, he had a proper journey going on in his music. he started off with some clubby dancey tunes and his set ended up with some rapid fire glitchy breaks... very well thought through, and his production is impecable... especially his kicks.. i always loved his drum production and hearing it on a pa just reinforced that... should have had more melodies though, or maybe they just got lost in the crap sound...

Otherwise i thought a lot of the music was not really my taste... people at festivals seem to not like melodies or dynamics because all the artists hardly used them... it was just bang bang break bang bang break bang.... did my head in after a while

I really like the vibe at glade though, i only met cool and friendly people which is always good... I somehow managed to get arrested on the saturday morning because i had some k on me from the night before and as i was walking in when they searched me... things got dark for a couple of hours, but it turned out ok...

Let me know your thoughts/experience....

Re: Glade Festival: Your thoughts - Post this thread on Twitter!

i have no idea what festival you went to but the music was incredible wherever i want, (except the psytrance stage).
I spent most of my time at the Inspiral Stage where i played, the music there was pretty much consistently awesome. to name a few: Bass Science, RaNDom, Nalepa, Rena Jones, Digitonal, Giani, Justin Chaos, Sick Rebel..i could go on.
Incredible bass, dubstep, glitch-hop and breaks, with chilled out electronica during the day as well.

Far Too Loud was also an awesome set, Screenager was incredible, Ital Tek played a great set, The Bug was brilliant and had Flowdan and some other MC making awesome awesomeness, Gaudi did a great live set with a full band. etc.

Autechre was a bit dull for me, they turned off all the lights and had no visual, the osund was too cluttred.
maybe i didnt giv them enough attention, but maybe it just aint my thing.

Glade was sick.

oh yea, there was one artist(duo) who i had never heard b4 and was kind of epic... not sure what they were called maybe u could help me out... it was at the overkill stage saturday evening, and one of the guys was wearing a green hoody... their set started with some chunky dubstep and ended up with some ripping jungle, they had a full journey going on which was awesome... any ideas?

Re: Glade Festival: Your thoughts - Post this thread on Twitter!

yea spoonbill are awesome, have seen them a couple of times in australia before... great for an acid comedown...

but see i think it wasnt probably the music but the sound that didnt do anyone justice... everyone has a unique sound to their music, obviously, and that just dint seem to come through with anyone i saw...

but anyway, my new dynaudio bm6's just walked in the door so i shall be in hybernation for the next few years.... au revoir mon ami!!!

Re: Glade Festival: Your thoughts - Post this thread on Twitter!

I really want to go to Glade one day, had some mates go and the pics they've put on facebook reminded me of that trippy hippie element Glastonbury has long forgotten.

Maybe next year but I'll be wanting decent PA systems as I've had too many events ruined by cheap production (e.g. Creamfields).

Big Chiil next week yey!

Re: Glade Festival: Your thoughts - Post this thread on Twitter!

a belated response, but i spent most of my time in the overkill stage at glade this year, and agree that i also was pretty dissapointed with the quality of the sound.

did autechre bring their own speakers? (then hide behind them/turn the lights of for maximum intensity - weird) i think you're right there was a difference in clarity during their set.

last year the overkill stage was too quiet, but could've been put down to the severe weather warning we had to sustain.

its a shame you had a bad time, i love that festival, mostly for the genres of music it caters for but also the cool bunch of peeps you bump into. im already counting the days to next years event.

Yea i think they use their own foldback speakers but thats about it.... i think the big mistake on all stages was the fact that they had speakers on all four corners of the tents.... even if you phase reverse the signal on the rear ones i cant see how the sounds wouldnt interact in a detramental way... i would have simply used reinforcement speakers all facing the same way.... having said that i have seen trentmoller with that kind of pseudo quad setup in a club and it worked really well....
