Hmm... discount on Presonus Studio One sounds nice.

I've tried almost every DAW there is and even though I prefer the philosophy of Reaper, Studio One is another DAW that really hit me with its user experience. It's a fun software.

Re: Black Friday Post-Mortem 2017

I suspect the wife got me Battery 4 during the half off sale. I bought a bunch of non-music related crap for the kids. Apparently $8 for a game in which a toilet sprays you in the face is a good price and much desired by my 5 year old.

Re: Black Friday Post-Mortem 2017

A new laptop. Not exactly cheap, but now I can maek teh musixxxx outside of my bedroom. Which is convenient, since I am stuck doing civil service (as an alternative for military service) in the middle of nowhere in the Finnish countryside.

As an aside: EU prices for laptops are garbage, even during sales. Had to order from US to get a price anywhere near competitive. Some of the best online stores in Europe had up to 70% markup on top of import fees and duties. But now I will be stuck with the US keyboard layout.

Best thing is that I prefer synthesising my drums, so most likely these samples will sit on my samplers, sometimes just used as extra layer.

That's the thing about samples..I have a 1TB drive full of them, most of them selectively bought over the years..and, even though they're all top-notch, I've hardly ever used any of them! Nothing against samples in general or using them in projects, but I've found if they're not what you're actually looking for in a current project, then the chances are you'll never get round to using them, as I personally forget I have them there..and when I do remember, it's a case of "I wonder what's in this folder?", basically meaning I go looking without a use in mind, so they end up not being used in the end.

I know I could start a project with hand-picked samples in mind and build up a project using just them..but that kinda goes against my usual workflow, which usually takes the form of me coming up with something spontaneously in my DAW, based on something that inspired me in my life.

LSS, I'm going to have to go through all those samples and burn them to dick or something, as I could do with the drive space they're taking up.

Up to you, no? I find a lot of inspiration in "done" sounds (i.e. samples); they can be a nice point of departure. Also with modern toys like the Digitakt, a sample is merely at the heart of a fancy oscillator...

Obviously..not slighting samples or the use of them..just saying I've bought a shitload of them over they years and never really used them for much. I've been meaning to go through them and weed out any that I really like, but I keep putting the task off.

Going to make a point of using at least one in all future projects.

I’m really struggling with whether or not to get Soundtoys. I just came up with something I really like using my go-to FX selection so I know I don’t *need* it. I’m primarily interested in Echoboy and a few of the others would be nice to have, but by and large I don’t really want the whole damn thing. Thing is I’ve already got a bunch of freebies from ST I can trade in and get the bundle for $165. I’d be happy with just Echoboy $99 on sale (which I don’t even really need, I have delays out the ass!), but for an extra $65 I can get the whole lot.

On the other hand I should really upgrade my MOBO and CPU on my studio desktop to make better use of the plug-ins I have. The CPU is like seven years old now...it is multi core...but dated.

Anywho....just bored...don’t mind me...

I think I’m going to pass. I just have an urge to splurge. I’ll get U-he Repro as I planned and then if it wrecks my CPU I’ll save up for computer upgrades. Not as fun, but a better long-run choice I think.

To help with perspective, I've been actively wanting this package for a long time and not grabbing it due to the cost. For me, it was a no-brainer. I probably won't buy anything for quite awhile now as I'm feeling pretty sorted. Too many plugins gets overwhelming and can make it harder to do things. I don't know you you folk with Komplete even turn on your computers without feeling anxiety

Actually, Komplete is one of my main "go-to" tools..it's the basis of mostly everything I do..from sketching sounds out, to final arrangement and RX..it's a real all-rounder. That said, there's also some old staples I rely on a lot, such as the old Alchemy and Padshop Pro..and a ton of 3rd party FX and utilities. But yeah, I'm kinda feeling the same as you theses days..not much out there that I really need..and only a handful that I can honestly say I like the look of or feel I might want at some stage.

I never installed all of Komplete at once. And I honestly don't miss it. I'm kind of less and less impressed with Native Instruments personally, but I understand why people like their stuff. I don't really miss Komplete personally.

Likewise, I've had my eye on Echoboy for a while now. But everything else from SoundToys hasn't particularly interested me. I haven't used the freebies I've got from them much. Got 'em all reinstalled and giving them a go.

The fact that I'll have spent almost a grand on my car this quarter has really slowed me down for Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Ah well. Such is life

Re: Black Friday Post-Mortem 2017

Was planning to bag myself Kontakt, Una Corda and maybe another one or two instruments for it.

Then saw Komplete 11 was €199, and the upgrade was another €199...so after planning on spending around €350-400 for Kontakt and 3(?) instruments for it, I got Komplete 11 for €400! Well chuffed with myself, but as mentioned before, still trying to install it a few days later!

Also wanted to upgrade my Waves Gold bundle to either Platinum or Diamond saved that for another black friday!

I keep telling myself it was the right thing to do as I wait and wait and wait for it all to download...

Makes sense in the long run as I'l probably never have to buy anything from them again, until they release a new shiny thing
