Do you really want to buy loops?
Isn't it better to create your own ones?

Re: Do you really want to buy loops?
maybe
Seriously..I guess is depends on if what you tend to make yourself is crap, when compared to what you can buy..and the other way round.
If you are good at making em and have the time..then go for it..but if you are more into mixing than making, then I guess you will be one of those who will go the easy route and buy em instead.

Re: Do you really want to buy loops?
It's better to buy them. What's the point in spending time creating your own loops when you can download professionally made sounds which have probably been made with expensive software and hardware. They will make your tracks sound awesome, and who needs to know you didn't create them?
No but, it's better to create 50 bad sounding loops yourself than to buy loops imo. I'm not really sure what loops we're talking about here - drums, lead, feedback or what but...I'm totally cool with using instrument presets, but pre-made loops? I don't get it.

Re: Do you really want to buy loops?
I don't see why you can't just do both? I mean if you end up chopping and resampling the material anyways, might as well use everything you can get your hands on. I wouldn't buy a loop to just throw it over everything and not do anything to it.

^^^exactly^^^
Loops IMHO can serve as inspiration, and may even find a way into a song as a heavily reworked sample via some sort of resynthesis. Using loops to make a track, start to finish, IMHO is cheating. There are no shortcuts in making edm. Time and effort cannot be faked. while the loops maybe made in a nice studio with top quality gear and whatnot, they still have to be put, or fit, into your project. This takes just as much time imho as making your own bussed drum, perc, bass, synth channel.

Re: Do you really want to buy loops?
Personally, I prefer to make my own loops/sampler instruments. I mean i think its acceptable to use premade loops occasionally or amongst your own. But when your just using placing loops together most of the track, i dont see that as constructing music correctly. In a way i guess it is cheating. And whilst the pre made loops may sound better or have a greater dynamic range, i think the fact that theyve been mastered and created by someone else contradicts the fact that the track should express your own technical ability and compositional ideas rather than someone elses. If that makes sense

But the fact you are choosing certain loops to do just that means..doesn't that amount to the same thing? That you are using various different loops to express the musical idea you have in your head?

Re: Do you really want to buy loops?
I think it depends on your interests. If you're a songwriter first, like me, then using loops can be really helpful. I don't want to spend the time to always create my own beats (although i usually do anyway) and sometimes a loop is exactly what my track needs.
If you fancy yourself an expert at programming sounds and rhythms, on the other hand, maybe you're better off (and will have more fun) making them yourself. Whatever makes you happy, really.

Re: Do you really want to buy loops?
when you are bored or have writers block sit back and make some of your own loops. that way you have them ready when the inspiration hits you.

Re: Do you really want to buy loops?
Why not buy loops / samples?
I have some packs and I use them sometimes. However I prefer one shots. Loops may sometimes limit you. But still I think it might be a good investment.
It depends on what are you doing with them... I certainly see nothing wrong in it.

Re: Do you really want to buy loops?
When I first started producing I would start off with a premade drum but loop I would change it up a bunch. That seemed to be a very good exercise to learn how to make my own from scratch and to tailor them to my leads

Re: Do you really want to buy loops?
Each to their own in this game I say....
I make all my own drum hits, loops and sound design (synth prog's, live recordings etc etc) from / through various bits of kit I've collected over the years... But that's only because I find it interesting, and it keeps me motivated and inspired. Personally I loose my love for tunes if I use something someone else created (sound wise... haha I don't make my own synths :-P) - it's just the way my head works I guess...
If someone can find similar interest and inspiration in mashing up loops, then that's fine in my books though...

Re: Do you really want to buy loops?
FUCK, I just bought 50 loops, now I can't make my own loops for 3-4 months PP PP
On a serious note, I've never used a loop, and I've never wanted to. Why? Because I find it fun and educational to do it myself. And I'm acutally able to hand pick all the sounds myself.

Re: Do you really want to buy loops?
Each to their own, but in most cases I like to write my own loops, beats, bass lines, at least then I feel I have more creative control over what's happening.. I like to feel that I own the tune.. If I use someone bodies drum loop for example, I usually have to alter it to my liking, which usually results in a new sound anyway.. In general I try to keep it authentic

Re: Do you really want to buy loops?
i own a few, but almost never use them. not because their bad, but because i'm too lazy to cut out the parts i want to use. I do use some simple drum loops as placeholders when i'm writing melodies or basslines as a reference point, but end up replacing them with my own.

Re: Do you really want to buy loops?
Use whatever you need.
Just because you use loops doesn't mean your final product is going to sound good. You've got to know how to arrange, compose, and mix beyond that to make anything good.
At the end of the day, if you succeed at pleasing the listener by making really good music, no one is going to care if you used a hihat loop from _______ sample pack. Who gives a shit - I know I don't.
Speaking for myself, I mostly only use premade loops for percussion. Using loops for leads, bass lines, and pads is very limiting creatively so I refrain. Plus, by making your own sounds you can use them in multiple songs which helps in creating an identity for your tracks because the same sounds will be recognizable throughout - something you just can't get with loops.
