A bit off topic but I read up on Aphex Twin after I joined the forum and he had this comment:

You should definitely read the bits on IDM in Simon Reynolds's Generation Ecstasy. It is NOT by any means an objective account - the author definitely has his own axe to grind - but he is also an extremely well-read, thoughtful writer who was there when IDM went big. Pretty much an essential read for any serious academic work on IDM (or any electronic dance music at all, for that matter), whether or not you agree with the guy.

That's a seriously good book for anyone even remotely interested in the history of electronic music. I've read it a few times now. Simon Reynolds is a very good music critic in general, his columns for the Guardian are also worth checking out. I don't always agree with his points, but I'm always interested in what he has to say.
