Re: Producing in early morning vs late night

I get a better feel for writing at night after i've warmed up a bit. But do better mixing first thing the morning after when my ears are fresh.

I always feel like im most creative and productive in the morning... after a day of thoughts, anxieties, activities, travel, work, etc etc my creative capacity has dwindled

Re: Producing in early morning vs late night

I usually get the most work done in the mornings, but my mornings start at 10-11am. I wake up, make 4 cups of coffee and then sit down and produce. If I don't have coffee or my cigarettes my production ability drops so much it's stupid. Cigarettes are essential!

Late at night I refine what I did in the morning, if one of my friends happen to be over though, I tend to just start a new song (or 3) and let them give me live feedback to improve it.

Re: Producing in early morning vs late night

The best time for me is the middle of the day. That way I have no conflictions with being tired in the morning, or being tired at night. Right after I eat lunch, I go to work and I get a lot out of it.

Re: Producing in early morning vs late night

Inspiration takes over me in the early hours of the morning, I can easily lose track of time and work on something all through the night.

Doesn't bother me so much about sleep though, I never waste a good inspired session, It's also good as i can work on the boring stuff through the day (mixing etc)

Re: Producing in early morning vs late night

Weirdly, my most productive and creative time is 5am-12pm. I get pretty stale when the afternoon hits. Sometimes I can get a wind in the evening. But I often set my alarm for 6am, and get to work.

Re: Producing in early morning vs late night

i'd say at night is my best time to make music cause usually i listened to music all day that day and by that time, i'll have all these musical ideas swirling in my head that will inspire, next thing i do is go in and make house music.

Re: Producing in early morning vs late night

It's interesting to see how many people work the same way. Also that several posts cite medical explanations. Perhaps working in the morning is objectively better?

Chiming in as another "efficient and structured" in the morning, and "experimental" in the evenings.
I prefer to work in the morning when I can, and then perfect the track over the next 5-6 hours. I work quickly in the mornings and can get down a lot of the basics until I have a 1-2 minute sketch of what I'm aiming for, and the rest is finessing.

Re: Producing in early morning vs late night

Lost count of how many times I've woken up in the morning, got to work and then looked at the clock and it's time for dinner. I've often created whole tracks (structure-wise anyway) in a single day this way. If I try to start making music at night my mind just feels too tired and I never get anything productive done. On the flip side, I find night time is probably the best time to play guitar.

Re: Producing in early morning vs late night

I've actually only produced in the morning once, and I was suprisingly very efficient. Still, I'm a complete night owl, so everything gets done at night.
