Re: Problems of being a band member
Seems like Germany is a nice country to find other metaheads in, put some ads out for musicians and audition them. You'll probably have better luck than I have had over the years. My issue was always drummers, maybe a little bit of vocals but I actually know a guy that does them well enough. Just no goddarn drummers.

America is the place to start a metal band. Most of people here can't either play or just want to play shitty metalcore songs in drop C.

I'm pretty much the opposite. America sucks for metal imo. But I'm an old fuck who likes old music. My last band was going places until our drummer wet the bed over some tiny inconsequential shit, getting hundreds of plays a day on myspace and playing every week. It's easy for bands to break up or not see shit the same way. I think the next band I join up with will probably be one where I just play what they want me to play and do my own stuff solo. I hate trying to get people to see shit my way so I gave up on that.

I know how that feels and frankly, I am about to take the same decision.

It's ALWAYS the drummer (I've broken up three bands).

You´re kind of right. I do know some great musicians that also happen to be my friends, yet they live in other cities and I don´t really feel like travelling 500 km just for the sake of rehearsing.

contrary to popular belief, there are plenty of artforms that aren't popular for the trivial reasons like someone didn't like how the innovator's record sounded.
"scum" by napalm death was never a great recording and the grindcore genre still suffers a negative reputation over it.

I found after a couple years of producing on my own however that I rung myself dry of ideas for new songs.
Playing in a band is a good idea, but most times if you're original, you're going to be in hell after trying all the "original" ideas and then testing them out on who can actually play them.

Re: Problems of being a band member
Main problems with musicians I tried to co-op or even start a band
a) most guys are just not reliable
b) they make big plans beforehand and then........nothing
c) even if our stuff was ok to some standard, my bandmate said - no it still suxxx I mean only negatives are not healthy on the long run
d) in case of girls they dissapear never to be seen again (maybe married someone in Japan or so)

Join a cover band? I went from depressed and believing everyone was organized to an 11 piece band that all reads manuscript paper and has a set list of over 50 songs. Most nights, things sound good. The hard part? I'm the youngest (I'm 28, these people are like late 40s/50s) and don't have to provide for a family yet, while they do, so there's a gap of time off at points.

Re: Problems of being a band member
The usual problem I came across in regard to other musicians and creating with others was actually mostly song structure. We could never agree how to form together parts or using breaks, things like that. And then the drummer, of course, never knew what a click was and had the worst tempo issues imaginable, played too fast at gigs, hit like a pussy etc.
Find a drummer that has a good solid grasp of tempo and can hit hard (at least for metal, maybe hard electronic as well) and you'll have a much easier time.
Come to think of it, I had some issues with the first bass player we had in that same band, also. He always wanted to play this dinky, plunky bass lines way up on the neck, like a guitar. Most of the time I wanted to do darker, minor scale stuff and he was all about making up happy, skipping down the street with a shit eating grin bass lines. I ended up walking out of one jam and never heard from the guy again. Nonetheless he was a good musician, just out of step with what I wanted. And that's the rub in alot of these cases, just not stylistically compatible, or they just suck which gives itself away quickly.
