well there is no talk of judges in the submissions section and dotted around there must be 40 (exaggeration) beat tape threads so it confuses my crippled brain
kong is having trouble with his internet atm and probably has this covered but it would at least be good to get a bit of a list going for candidates...
if you want to be added to this list please say so clearly
for the time being til kong comes and says something otherwise i am sure that he wanted to go with the electronic hip hop/LA Beat scene idea which is:
LA beat scene tape
time limits/number of tracks
-1.5-2.5 minutes for each track, 20+ tracks, possibly featuring an artist more than once so multiple entries
-2-3 minute tracks, 15-20 tracks, probly won't feature same artist twice but will have a huge roster
-because we can't use samples, naturally we can do an LA beat scene type beat tape.
When all of the submissions are in the voting process will begin which will last about a week. How selecting judges will work has yet to be discussed and I am open to suggestions. Personally, I think we should have 4 judges that are die hard fans of the genre the release is gonna be. This will ensure that they actually know what is good and what isn’t within said genre. We can perhaps compile a list of who would judge which genre and select for from each list in accordance to the release is.
IMHO you are probably OK as an individual producer release free stuff on SC (you never know though...I general don't mess w/ samples I think there is any potability I'll be busted for), but the issue here is a legal problem could harm IDMf, the Netlabel, all parties involved in a release etc.
been thinking of some names for this LA beat scene tape and if it isn't too redundant, what do you guys think of Orbiting LA or Orbital LA. For Orbital LA, perhaps the album art can be a silhouette of the city's skyline sitting on top of a rock floating in space. there can be an orange space glow behind it and on the around it all can be black space and stars.
noo i'm not but i will speak to our local artists here.
yeah a spacey theme would be cool, i always thought a cool title would be Next Step, Space but dunno where that would fit in chronologically and if that is even necessary. a spacey theme is good but not TOO spacey.. i mean think of flying lotus' los angeles album or have a listen to the examples i posted. i think if we have synths mixed with hip hop beats it'll work out fine (check dibiase).
here's another good example. spacey yet not totally out there and more "grounded". dunno if that makes sense.
would avoid anything like shit off of flylo's cosmogramma album. that shit isn't even hip hop anymore hahha
re: tape name— personally i wouldn't put LA in the title at all. i think it'd be better to choose something that characterizes the crew that made it/the sound of the tape itself rather than a region that may or may not have influenced its creation. something like a couple words from a post FMB made while he was blasted might work . i'll see if something pops up for me. but yeah, putting LA in it just seems unoriginal, like we're just making a tape that copies what's already been done.
