Re: Tips for starting a song...

If you really want to just start a song make a chord progression, if you don't know how to do this learn the circle of fifths. I have a link telling you how to use the circle of fifths and diagrams at classicaldubstep.blogspot.<com>/2012/05/music-theory-circle-of-fifths.html (remove the < >). Learn how to use the circle of fifths and then diagram the free diagrams that show you what chords work in any given key. That's how I force a song, other times a melody just pops into my head and i just go with it.

Can u play/create chords?
I usually start out with chords... After that the baseline, then beat, then leads.

Re: Tips for starting a song...

I usually build a simple 4 or 8- beat drum loop and listen to it on repeeat until I feel like I'll go mad without some variety... this galvanises me to start opening synths, samplers etc. and messing around to find new sounds with which to break the monotony lol... seems like a good approach for techno

Re: Tips for starting a song...

Just be sure not to get stuck on something and change it over and over and over..... Play the beat on a loop, and mess around to create a melody for a while. Eventually you'll like something you hear and you can build from there. Also don't get stuck on mixing it perfectly right away. You need to have a good chunk of music before you try to make it sound perfectly blended.

Another one here!

Have been messing around in Live for about six months and just did a (very) basic computer music course at the local studio but have yet to make a full track.

Let me know if ya want to trade; as you say, we`ve probably both learnt different stuff so pooling knowledge could be useful
