ON AVERAGE: How many hours do you put into one track?
On average, how many hours do you put into one track and what kind of a producer are you, a beginner, middleman (meaning you know the works, but aren't quite a pro yet), or a pro?

Re: ON AVERAGE: How many hours do you put into one track?
fastest track Ive ever made: an hour
longest track: 60+ hours
average: used to be around 10 hours, now its about 20-25.
longer times on a track does not necessarily make them "better", btw.

Re: ON AVERAGE: How many hours do you put into one track?
Also, please include which genres you produce It's interesting to see and compare. I was reading something in EDM mag and one producer said that he averaged about 60-70 hours, so I was just curious..

Re: ON AVERAGE: How many hours do you put into one track?
I'd say I'm a middle man and I generally put about 20-30 hours into each track. I usually produce house...mostly progressive.

Re: ON AVERAGE: How many hours do you put into one track?
i produce whatever comes to me
sometimes it's acoustic guitar and voice
sometimes it's literally painful blasts of noise brickwalled at 0db solid
sometimes it's melodic and very eclectic electronica
sometimes it's crazy breakcore
you get the picture

My shortest song was finished in about 5 hours. My longest still is not complete.

I lol'ed
Even thoe it is mostly unlistenable (no offence), it is still interesting how you made it. And it would work well paired with something equally abstract/artsy like some art pieces or a video. Cool stuff.

why would I take offense for you stating the exact reason I made such a thing? :U
I consider those kinda like audio diaries. Instead of writing down something that happened to me, I make a terrible thing that has nothing to do with anything that happened to me.

Re: ON AVERAGE: How many hours do you put into one track?
I've literally only started producing but I've spent 3 hours on one track and the other two have had between 6 and 8. For me the hardest thing is knowing when to stop and leave it alone as I have a tendency to make things too busy and layer too many sounds! My friend has been producing for around 10 years and it takes him months to finish a track

Re: ON AVERAGE: How many hours do you put into one track?
When I first started, it would take me maybe one night, 4ish hours, to make something. I would just stop after composition.
The last few tracks i've been working on, have been taking about 3 to 4 nights, usually a good 24+ hours.
During the week, I'm so recluse. I go to work from 7am to 6pm and then do nothing but try to make something when I get home. It's just too addicting for me to care about a social life as much.

Re: ON AVERAGE: How many hours do you put into one track?
Usually when I make a track, I make it very quickly and get the basic ideas down so I don't forget them. Usually total time spent on one beat is less than an hour. I'm just not the type to sit there for hours working on one thing, or going back to something hundreds of times and changing it, etc. I figure, once I get the beat out of my head, it's pretty much done, except for a few little things. Like maybe I'll come back later and turn down the snare and turn up the kick or something. So I'm probably in the minority here of people who don't spend much time on their tracks.
That type of mindset goes back to my hiphop beat making roots, where I would spend about 15 minutes on a track and that's it, record it and move on to the next. I'm pretty much still the same way.

Re: ON AVERAGE: How many hours do you put into one track?
I could probably finish a track in 4 hours if I wasn't having so much fun jamming on it in Live.

Re: ON AVERAGE: How many hours do you put into one track?
5-50 hours I think. Usually it has less to do with how much time I spend actually working on a track, and how much time elapses after I start it. It usually takes at least a month for me to call a track "finished" after I get the initial idea. I'm surprised by how fast some people are. Speed is probably something I need to work on.
