Most complex drum programmer?

Just out of curiosity, who'd ya'll say has the most complex drum programming in DnB? Could be other genres too, just looking to get inspired right now as I'm writing a drum n bass tune.

"DnB" and "complex" doesn't go well together in my head. Maybe that is just me.

Classic, but still good (micro-editing is exquisite):

Re: Most complex drum programmer?

If you are talking some drum funk stuff like Fanu...maybe...as much as I love DnB I gotta agree I'm not sure you'll find the most complex stuff within DnB (just a lot of sampled breaks).

Ah I see. Yes I was thinking drum loops that are programmed on a one shot basis, not chopped up loops. In other words, using actual drum fills and patterns that a real drummer would used but obviously sequenced electronically. The examples so far haven't really been what I had in mind but I still appreciate them. Maybe drum and bass isn't correct... I'm not very well versed in genres TBH.

Maybe check out Breakcore as well? Like...Venetian Snares? I don't know if he is Breakcore technically, but def. check him out.

Re: Most complex drum programmer?

I don't understand why it has to be sequenced one shots ; you can get very nice patterns and fills using chopped breaks

this one has some of my favorite drum lines ; I'll think of more later

Re: Most complex drum programmer?

I love how this has been posted in the wrong subforum. Aphex Twin came up with very complex drum patterns. D&B and Breakcore are too monotonous and predictable.

That guy Blaerg does some weird shit:

Very IDMish, too.

Richard Devine pretty much owns them all, though:

Make sure you listen to his shit while drunk or high.

Here's the thing though. I find IDM style drums to be interesting and certainly not predictable, but that's not what I'm looking for in this case. I do believe it's the right sub forum still, but honestly I'm happy to hear anyone's suggestions from other genres, even ambient and big beat could work for me.

What I'd really love to hear is drum sequencing that sounds like it's generally coming from a conventional kit (not glitch sounds) sequenced the way a real drummer might play but still having the slight unrealistic nature that comes with computer sequenced drumming. The thing about chopped up breaks is, they sound like chopped up breaks. I like that in certain situations but not here.

I apologize for making this so specific and unusual. I'm sure this doesn't apply to the vast majority of electronic music but there must be something similar out there.

Re: Most complex drum programmer?

actually some of aphex twin's drums can be adapted on a real kit
some guys also cover Venetian Snares drums

and I've seen some other guys playing semi-electronic kits ; ie a regular kit and pads or a drum machine on the side from which they trigger sounds/tweaks

So I guess drummers become more and more able to incorporate those glitches and stuff in their game

here's a really good drummer in that style :

and this guy has some good drums programming but remaining groovy ; not so crazy mangled stuff

The dgoHn track is cool, but I think that long arm track has been my favourite of the thread! Very cool piece. Thanks for all your suggestions btw.

Every sound in vordhosbn is so pronounced and clear but with captract it sounds like the track is hi passed or something. But then I listen to my own mixes and switch back to captract and my soul dies a bit.

In terms of how intricate their tracks are, Its like comparing vishnu to shiva.

Re: Most complex drum programmer?

I've got a track called Good Weather on my soundcloud that might be the kind of sounds you're talking about. If you want to sequence really complex drums with acoustic samples, I think it's quite important to have 2 or 3 different snare samples and same thing with hihats and kicks. Tons of velocity edits.

It's in the set called London EP.

No high-filtering going on there. Richard just loves high frequencies. Who doesn't.
