Preamp for home recording

I own Emu 0404 usb. Have extra 500$. Im thinking would Warm Audio WA12 be worth investing in? I know that emu has decent preamps itself. But Im not sure how good will this one sound. I use AT4040 as my main condenser mic. I do all recording at home.

Re: Preamp for home recording

I'm thinking about upgrading my preamp situation as well. The WA 12 looks like a hell of a pre for the money but you might want to consider your AD/DA quality of your converters. Seems like the E-MU box would out of it's league in this situation. I'm sure you'd be able to more colors out of your microphone with the WA 12.

Re: Preamp for home recording

Look at the Black Lion Auteur.

It's drastically improved my recordings with the same mic and interface setup.

Re: Preamp for home recording

I have an Art Studio V3 and is seems to be an incredibly solid piece of hardware. I just have never really used it. But by God it looks cool on my shelf among other stuff I don't use.

Re: Preamp for home recording

I have heard good things about Warm Audio and having been eyeing their Tone Beast for recording my hardware synths for some time, but when I need a pre-amp my MOTU's preamps do just fine and I've got plenty of color options that didn't cost $600 in my software arsenal.

If you don't have a noise/quality issue with your EMU pres, I'd say don't spend the money.
