What gear is that?

This is now our generic "What piece of gear is that?" thread.

Hi,

Don't know if I put it in a correct place. I tried to find an answer in web, but without success. What is that white thing used by AE at this picture?

Thanks a lot!

Re: What gear is that?

machinedrum maybe?

i don't know they use TONS of gear and it's always changin. maybe someone here is a huge enough AE nerd to know what they were suing specifically in 2001.

Re: What gear is that?

haha this made me laugh ...

small photo, back of the device, few other white things too - could be pretty much anything!

looks too small for drum machine unless you mean a pad one - basing this on the roland tr-909 I used to have as that was quite long/wide.

Re: What gear is that?

It's none of the Elektron stuff I think, see this one has only two outputs (+ one for headphone probably), it could be some old synth module actually.

Re: What gear is that?

No idea.

There's 3 cables. 1 power, 1 MIDI and 1 red audio cable that goes to the mixer. But in the middle it seems like it would have some sort of serial port. Do other than some sort of digital romplers and old computers carry serial ports? Samplers?

Re: What gear is that?

Thanks for tips! I noticed the joint too, but it was not what I was asking for It looks like drum machine, but most of old Roland machines had separate outputs on the back... Anyway, maybe someone will come up with other ideas...

Re: What gear is that?

if ever I made it as a pro and become world famous with some unique sound (I won't). I would mess around with people like have someone put a machine drum into an mpc shell, or I would use some obscure program in all my screenshots like an old tracker, that I just ran as a screen saver.

Then people would be like "how did he make glitch using rebirth" and I would just laugh...

least helpful response ever. I believe it was daft punk that mostly trigger samples and remixed in their live set and I believe justice got caught playing off of tape when a piece of gear wasn't even plugged in.

i'm pretty sure daft punk is mostly controlling lights and shit actually, not really doing much to the music at all.

Re: What gear is that?

Well the (PCMCIA) slot, output positions, case shape and screw attachments are all very reminiscent of the Nord lead (rack), although it's hard to tell from the picture if it has the 5 outs and 3 MIDI options.

Looks like this could be the same synth though if that helps?

Re: What gear is that?

Well the red box on the right is likely a nord G2 modular, apart form that don't really know.

Re: What gear is that?

It's the Nord Lead, rack version. Although they seem to have it in white.

Also listed here to have been used by Autechre:

Creds for Sveldt for noting it first though.

Re: What gear is that?

Aha!
The original version had less outs, thanks for clearing up the confusion.

The casing is also a bit different on closer inspection. On the rack2 the red top plate doesn't extend down the sides.

Re: What gear is that?

@Sveld, Blank^: Then we have it! Thanks! I wonder why they made it white....

@Aikighost: it's rather G1. G2 was released in 2004 and picture was taken in 2001.

what gear is in this photo please..

This is a picture of john talabot's studio. He's probably my favourite producer and has been for quite some time! I was hoping some of you tech folks could point out what allot of this stuff is, particularly the monitors and the effects units on the desk as well as that synth on the right…

Re: what gear is in this photo please..

The monitors are Genelec. No idea the model. The synth standing from the floor up behind the table top looks like a MicroKorg XL and I'm not sure what the effects unit is. Too Blurry to make out the lettering. Looks like IMAGE SOHO. But a quick search brings me nothing of value(assuming you're talking about the unit below the left monitor).

I'm curious what the little thing is at the lower left portion of the table that looks like it has the rods or needles sticking out of it. Maybe that is actually the one you're talking about. Looks crazy old.

SP-12 which I think is a drum-machine(possibly sampler) no idea specifics and a TB-707 I think. Obviously the JUNO.

EDIT - Sorry, that's the TR-707. Also no idea the difference in all these, or even the capabilities of these old machines.
