Tip on how to find out the key signature of a song (sheet music)

If you look at the treble clef, and see four sharp symbols next to it (for example) you can tell what key it is by looking at the LAST sharp symbol and seeing what the next line or space is. So, if for example, you had the last sharp resting on the line for D the next SPACE would be for an E. So the key signature is E Major.

For flats its almost the same, except you can find the key by looking at the penultimate flat symbol. Penultimate means (THE ONE BEFORE THE LAST) So lets take 5 flats, put the fourth flat symbol on the line for D and the last one on the line for G. All you do is go and look at what is BEFORE the last flat symbol. In this case I said there was a flat symbol on the line for D, Well then that's your key signature. D Major.

This is basic music theory tbh ^^"

And don't forget the minor scales, every major scale has their accompanying minor scales.

Yes and there are 100000 threads here that indicate that there are MANY here who could use a little theory help.

More musicians! Fewer DJ's turned button pushers plz.

I don't know any musician/producer/whatever that couldn't benefit from a better understanding of theory.

Or you could just memorize which keys have which amount of sharps or flats, since there's only one of each if you do it right.

Re: Tip on how to find out the key signature of a song (sheet music)

As a classically trained pianist, the chart caused me to ponder: have I played in 7 sharps or 7 flats before? 7 flats, definitely. 7 sharps, only in sight reading, I think - in Bach's monumental Preludes and Fugues - there are 24 of them, one for every major and minor key. Although now that I think of it, I would have to check my Bach Well Tempered Clavier, since a key center for for each of the notes on a piano necessarily means we're leaving out a couple keys (Db or C#?; B or Cb?). But I digress, and my entire comment is a digression from the intent of the post. On to another rabbit trail....

As a quantum musician I would argue that you could have an infinite number of sharps and flats and negative sharps and flats.
