Put the accents odd places. For example like this:

^ = accent

^ - 2 - 3 - 4 ^ 1 - 2 - 3 ^ 4 -

This especially works well with synths playing quick & short chords.

Might want to look at blues scales, pentatonic scales, and dorian mode as well. Haven't seen any of those mentioned here....
