It's a strange choice of words: "improve my online background".
You can't really improve on your background, since it's already in the past, so I assume you must be talking about creating an improved "future past", right?
But since your "future past" in a sense is just "now", it seems to me like a needlessly complicated way to look at it. And since the future strictly speaking isn't real (yet), thinking about "now" in terms of "the future past", - it would tend to remove you slightly from reality, wouldn't it?
It becomes like daydreaming.
And since self improvement in dreams rarely sticks with you after you wake up, it's not necessarily the best strategy in my opinion.
I realise, of course, that you might just have been translating a Polish expression unknown to me, in which case I do apologise!
