Re: Nintendo releasing miniature NES console

It would be cool if it could take cartridges for other games, but it doesn't. I prefer my all-in-ones to be able to take other games. But it looks like they got all the major ones on here. 2 Zeldas, all the marios, final fantasy, donkey kong, Metroid, ninja gaiden, etc...so not a bad set of games. I'll be sticking with my original NES for now.

Really? Well that's kind of a deal-breaker, then. Wonder why they don't mention this in the ads I've read.

A million fucking no.
Just get an emulator for your PC and save the space in your house and the money.
Seriously, old games are terrible.
You have forgotten how much of a ball-ache they were and you only perceived them as good at the time because you were 8, it was cutting edge then and there was little to no alternative.
Move along.

How narrow minded of you.

Video games are all the same at their core. Moving pixels around and pressing certain buttons when you encounter other pixels. They're just dressed up differently.

I like good graphics, but it's not the most important thing to me. I also tend to like "a minute to learn, a lifetime to master" type of games. I love ninja gaiden for instance.

I enjoy being able to pick up a game and play for 30 minutes and feel like I actually played a game. So many games now require such large investments of time just to learn all the controls and plow through all the awful dialogue. Sometimes I think they fall back on the challenge of just being able to keep all the controls straight in your head vs ball bustingly difficult shit, which is what i like.

I do like new games too, but I don't have the time to play them much.

Re: Nintendo releasing miniature NES console

Never played NES..My parents didn't allow video games, we didn't even had a tv

I loved Monkey Island, and Indiana Jones on my fathers pc. And this super cool game with inkas, machupichu and space ships!

I think, I started playing SNES when I was 12, and later Playstation pretty excessive - Metal Gear Solid 4 ever.

So this thing comes with a bunch of games but doenst actually load NES games? Sry can't read right now.

btw @ mnkvolcno
I think games actually changed a lot around the time when they started to have a decent saving function. Also physics engines changed a lot again.

But... didn't play any games for dunno 15 years or so...dunno how games are like today

Donkey Kong is still one of my favorite games ever. And I know you can emulate it on your PC but you know, it's like the difference between owning a digital vs a physical copy of a release

I was thinking about getting this, but then I remember that I have a Gamecube hooked up with a bunch of games I love and I'm not playing it nearly enough. I have the feeling that I'd get super-excited getting this, but it would just sit there.

You are wrong.
Computer games are not all the same and their controls and controllers are certainly not.

Anyway, I'm not saying "don't enjoy old games" at all. I recently went on an insane binge of arcade and neo geo games from the late 80's and 90's and I've been enjoying a bit of the Golden Eye/Perfect Dark mod mash-up recently too etc.

What I'm actually saying is don't waste good money on this shitty hunk of plastic and wires just because it conjures up some nostalgia for a machine many of us threw away with disdain over a decade ago.

Just download an emulator and enjoy those games for free on your existing hardware.

Re: Nintendo releasing miniature NES console

Nintendo has some excellent deep cuts aside from the normal Mario/Zelda crap they shovel down ppl's throats. I'm more of a 16 bit fan when RPGs really came into their own but there are some good 8 bit games like the ones I listed above.

Re: Nintendo releasing miniature NES console

I think it'd be cool if you have kids, like I do. My son would think it's pretty sweet too, that I know. Maybe that's their target market. Sure I could get these same games on my wii (I think) but they're like 5 or 10 bucks a piece that way from what I've seen of other classics. This is a much more cost effective solution and comes with titles I would never have thought of. My computer is over on the desk with a bunch of work crap and my lappy is reserved for music only. With this baby I could fire it up in my couch and play away with my kid(s). That said I'm looking at a WiiU anyway to replace my wii for my kids come Christmas so I won't be buying it anyway, lol. Still cool though I think.
