Re: What does "Sidechain", "Attack" and "Bassline" mean?

Sidechain is a alternative input (key input) on a compressor that over-rides the usual input. This means an alternative input source controls the compressor's behaviour of the regular source input.

Attack is the transient. If you are talking compressor or ADSR it's the attack time (of the slope) for an envelope to open up or a compressor to react to the input source.

A bassline is just a bassline, a series of rhytmic notes and pauses/silence. It's usually pitched low, hence the "bass" in the name.

What is Google?

Re: What does "Sidechain", "Attack" and "Bassline" mean?

Sidechain: Some effects allow you to use an incoming signal to affect the parameters of the effect. A common scenario is with a compressor on a bass track. The incoming audio signal would be from a kick so that whenever the kick plays, the bass 'ducks' out the way. So the amount of compression is being determined by the incoming audio signal = sidechain compression.

Attack: The time it takes for a sound to reach it's peak. The basics of synthesis - ADSR envelopes:

Bassline: Ever seen a band play & there's a person playing the bass guitar? Their contribution to the song will be the bassline, just as the drummer provides the drum beat and the singer provides the vocals.

Re: What does "Sidechain", "Attack" and "Bassline" mean?

sidechaining is where you feed an audio signal into a compressors sidechain input, and put that on another track: making it "pump". Its quite a complicated theory, but a really useful effect especially in Dance music for pumping a bass around a kick drum.

Attack is the time a sound take to reach its loudest point. It can be controlled by an ADSR envelope on a synth.

A bassline is the bass section in a track.

Yeah, like Evelon said, use google, poorly:

a sidechain s a chemical group that is attached to a core part of the molecule called "main chain" or backbone

Attack: to set upon in a forceful, violent, hostile, or aggressive way

Bassline is an offshoot of Speed Garage music

Well sidechain to but it in simplest terms is the pumping effect you get from a synth or a pad you hear in a song i didnt know either then i figured it out and was like THATS WHAT IT IS. Bassline pretty much explains its self. if you listen to trance you will hear the bass line usually in the beginning of the track.
