I was just working on a track, not beeing happy with the intro melody.
So I composed another one in the scale of the song, but it doesn´t seem to match with the song.
It´s very akward how it changes with the drop, suddenly something totally different...
What´s your advice? Should I compose a melody that fits with the refrain and use it as an intro, or is there another way I could solve this problem?

Why does the intro have to fit with the refrain/chorus?

If you really want it to fit, then make it fit. That would be my suggestion.

It just feels like the intro melody is a whole different song, it doesn't "flow" into the refrain, the drop makes me think " fuck that´s so random".

Maybe make the intro less of a melody.

Or try to make it some sort of variant of the drop.

compare the two parts:


are they rhytmically similar ? what about the melody ? Do you use the same chords or are they completely different ?

Another good trick is to place a pickup measure before the chorus...like a reversed pad or white noise in fade in...

Maybe take a look into Gestalt psychology, that might help you a lot in terms of building a fulfilling section leading up to the drop; concepts like Figure and Ground, and the number of things the mind can pay attention to and how it directs the conscious attention of the viewer (in this case listener).

For instance this remix, a lot of the instrumental (rhythm guitar, jazz winds sections) hits don't really make too much sense harmonically (obviously they add to the chords and match the rhythms, but when you listen it doesn't really seem to make sense and yet it fits beautifully.

I think i fixed the problem, I took the chords of the refrain and composed a lead melody to it.
