Re: Useful tips that music isn't getting boring and repetative for you fast

"You people speak of music like its some robotic formula. Its sad."

Could not agree more. You see. Lots of producers actually create music in a "robotic formula way".
I recognize this in a lot of young producers work. Outstanding quality, Soul-less content.

I normally have thousands of ideas when I bring up a main melody.
Fx. I had a dream with a repeating melody in my head. a very simple melody.

I recreated the melody in my software and BOOM, lots of things was being added shortly after.

And the part with repetitive music. Often I try to create hypnotic music by using repetitive melodies.

Hope my experiences helped some of you.

I struggle with this (not only a bit...) esp when composing Music in Software. At a certain point everything gets in a way "annoying". Yes, I think that's the right word for it. It's almost a feeling of ichyness and impatience which builts up in myself. Tho I am rather a patient person with everything else in life!

Do you have any methods to overcome this situation? Maybe you trick your brain not to memorize the different patterns of a Track and keeps listening to it interesting? Implement much more breaks?

Reeally interested what you guys know about this. Especially from those who have either dealt with this situation before or are in the business for a couple of years and have a greater variety of solutions of this, what I call it, pattern-like problem.

Thank you.

PS: On a sidenote rather offtopic but I will start a thread for this on its own soon: Is this getting impatient a problem of sitting uncomfortable on your chair, which may hurt after some hours? Pain leads to impatience due to wanting to cure this pain?
Use timers. I set 25 hours to FINISH the track. from sound design to arrangement & composition to mixdown. If 25 hours pass and it's not done, I scrap it and maybe save cool samples or drum grooves; unless I feel it's a fucking masterpiece worth coming back to.

Also, when you're working set a 10 minute timer for whatever you're doing to move the track forward. If you can't get a thing to sound at least 75% decent in 10 minutes, it's probably just not gonna work.

And take advantage of random effect plug-ins and things like that (i.e. Stutter Edit, Effectrix, Artillery, SupaTrigga, etc...) bounce out a long clip of a bunch of randomness and you'll be able to arrange a few different and exciting song sections. Fun shit my dude. And DO NOT listen to the loop more than 2-3 times in a row without changing/adding/subtracting something. If I ever do this I immediately stop and am done for the day. Period. I won't open the DAW at al if I show any symptoms of loopus.

Re: Useful tips for avoiding getting music boring and repetative quickly?

I'd say get out of yo comfort zone mate, just go batshit crazy for a while and come back to it later to rearrange.

In a more serious vein, we tend to see music production as a process that is to be perfected in a linear way,

in the same way as we play an instrument and repeat the same pattern over and over until we know them by heart.

Sometime what you need is to get thrown out of your element, but in a drastic way, if you're not a professional producer (i mean if you don't have any obligation like a weekly podcast to complete) i'd suggest going for it:

Try to limit yourself or use only a certain type of vst/instruments/process/computer chair...
and work for it for an extended period of time, just to change the habit, if you think about it a little bit, it makes sense, a week spent working in a new environment is nothing compared to a month repeating the same pattern with a slightly different preset.

or else you can try pottery it's very relaxing
