Anyone have Grades in Music Theory

Anyone here got any Grades of Music Theory even if its only Grade 1?

Yesterday i got 40% in a Grade 1 practice paper (Pass = 66%), I had to guess most of the questions tho

I want to pass a Grade 2 practice paper online before the 1st of September, and Grade 3 by Christmas.

Next year, May/June time i will be doing a Music Theory exam with the course ill be doing, so the more i know the higher the Grade i can sit, if i can stay motivated to study a few times a week i want to do a Grade 5 maybe 6 paper.

Re: Anyone have Grades in Music Theory

40% on a Grade 1 paper? That's brutal mate! I've got Grade 4 in the Royal Conservatory, but I have pieces in my repertoire that are graded as Grade 7 and Grade 8. I'll probably be going for my Grade 5 or 6 sometime in the next year or so, whenever I get around to it. The testing schedules for the Royal Conservatory are a pain though, especially for the performance exams, so it could be a while.

But yeah, if you study, you shouldn't have much of a problem learning all the theory. Is it just a written exam you'll be taking? If so, then you definitely shouldn't have any trouble. It's performance exams that really take up a lot of your time! xD

I'm not sure what all this "grade" stuff is, but I took AP Music Theory at my boarding school for the arts (Interlochen Arts Academy), and did pretty well. Finished the year with an a-minus

Re: Anyone have Grades in Music Theory

Music theory (at least in terms of the simple things you're talking about) is easy as hell if you actually play a real instrument

Re: Anyone have Grades in Music Theory

I got a 5 in AP music theory back in high school. had to teach myself the subject because none of the so-called music teachers were properly qualified. most embarassing moment was having to sight sing in front of the examiner with only a thin screen wall seperating me and the AP biology students.

I'm halfway through my Bachelor in musicology this year, and will be applying for a bachelor in classical composition when I'm done. I also have 4 years of high school with music before this.

I used to live right near Interlochen! Did you ever spend a summer at Blue Lake?

Re: Anyone have Grades in Music Theory

I am currently in theory 3 but I studied theory for a couple years prior to going to school for composition. I haven't dropped a point in any theory classes so far.
